Dicit beatissimus Paulus, quod per patientiam et consolationem Scripturarum firmam spem habere debeamus (Rom. xv, 4); cum omnes Christiani, tum specialius illi quibus datur in hoc mundo, aut pro Deo persecutionem pati, aut pro veritatis amore tribulari, aut pro vitæ hujus peregrinatione cum. pungi.
The most blessed Paul says that through the patience and consolation of the Scriptures we ought to have a firm hope (Rom. XV, 4); this is true of all Christians, but more especially of those to whom it is given in this world either to suffer persecution for God, or to be afflicted for love of the truth, or to be pierced with compunction on account of the pilgrimage of this life.
