Ipse certe per se Dominus, Spiritum, inquit, veritatis qui a Patre procedit (Joan. xv, 26). Enim vero non dicendo processit, sed procedit, non tempus procedentis docuit, sed præterito futuroque submoto, sub inicrminabilis æternitate præsentiae virtutem processionis ostendit; ut sicut est proprium Spiritui sancto a Patre Filioque procedere, istud catholica fides, etiamsi renuentibus non persuaserit, in sune tamen disciplinæ regula non excedit.
The Lord Himself surely says of Himself: The Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father (John 15:26). For truly, by saying not 'proceeded' but 'proceeds,' He did not teach a time of the one proceeding, but, with past and future set aside, under the boundless eternity of the present He displayed the power of the procession; so that, just as it is proper to the Holy Spirit to proceed from the Father and the Son, this the catholic faith, even if it does not persuade those who refuse, nevertheless does not depart from the sound rule of its teaching.
主自己確實論到自己說：從父出來真理的靈（約十五26）。因為祂實在不說「發出過」而說「發出」，就不是要教導那發出者的時間，乃是把過去與未來都撇開，在那無窮無盡的現在之永恆中，顯明了這發出的能力；如此，正如聖靈之由父與子發出乃是祂所本有的，這一點大公信仰縱然不能說服那些拒絕的人，卻仍不越出其教訓的純正準則。
