Avitus episcopus Gregorio episcopo. Meis potius ascribo peccatis, quod vos ad dispositinnem piissimae voluntatis corporis inæqualitas impedivit, quanquam consueta dignatio oratione nos et oblatione comitata sit. Unde salutationis oflicia pagina famulante persolyens, supra quam sermone valeo gratias ago, qucd festivitatem nostram pleno vos desiderio sitientem, etiam si non satiastis praesentia, refecistis expensa.
Avitus the bishop to Gregory the bishop. I rather ascribe it to my own sins that the weakness of the body has hindered you from carrying out your most devout intention, although your accustomed graciousness has attended us with prayer and oblation. Wherefore, rendering the duties of greeting by means of this servant page, I give thanks beyond what I am able to express in speech, because, though you were thirsting with full longing for our festival, you have refreshed us by your outlay even if you did not satisfy us by your presence.
