2-14:14
We therefore ask you to subscribe what seems good to you and to publish this little book, so that our affairs may be made known to others also, and they may be able to be delivered from false opinion and from ignorance of good things—men who through their own fault become liable to punishments [in order that these things may be made known to men]—because of the fact that the discernment of what is good and what is shameful is in the nature of men; and because they condemn us, whom they do not understand to do such shameful things as they speak of; and because they delight in gods who did such things and even now demand the like from men, so that, as though we were doing such things, by sentencing us to death or bonds or any other such thing, they condemn themselves, so as to have no need of other judges.
