And now I will yet again say the words I mentioned for the demonstration of this. When He says, 'The Lord rained fire from the Lord out of heaven,' the prophetic word indicates that there are two in number: the one being on earth, who, it says, came down to see the cry of Sodom; the other existing in the heavens, who is also Lord of the Lord on earth, as Father and God, the cause to Him of His being, and of His being mighty and Lord and God.
And again, when the word says that God said in the beginning, 'Behold, Adam has become like one of us,' this 'like one of us' is also indicative of number, and the words do not admit of a figurative interpretation, as the sophists attempt to expound, who are able neither to speak nor to understand the truth.
And in Wisdom it is said: 'If I declare to you the things that happen daily, I will remember to recount the things from of old. The Lord created me the beginning of His ways for His works. Before the age He founded me, in the beginning, before He made the earth, and before He made the depths, and before the springs of waters came forth, before the mountains were settled; before all the hills He begets me.'
