3-48:1

Καὶ ὁ Τρύφων· Καὶ περὶ τούτων ὅσα φρονεῖς ἀκηκόαμεν, εἶπεν. Ἀναλαβὼν οὖν τὸν λόγον, ὅθεν ἐπαύσω, πέραινε· παράδοξός τις γάρ ποτε καὶ μὴ δυνάμενος ὅλως ἀποδειχθῆναι δοκεῖ μοι εἶναι· τὸ γὰρ λέγειν σε προϋπάρχειν θεὸν ὄντα πρὸ αἰώνων τοῦτον τὸν Χριστόν, εἶτα καὶ γεννηθῆναι ἄνθρωπον γενόμενον ὑπομεῖναι, καὶ ὅτι οὐκ ἄνθρωπος ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, οὐ μόνον παράδοξον δοκεῖ μοι εἶναι ἀλλὰ καὶ μωρόν

And Trypho said: "We have heard what you think about these matters too. So take up the argument again from where you left off, and finish it. For it seems to me to be something quite paradoxical and altogether incapable of being demonstrated. For your saying that this Christ pre-existed as God before the ages, and then consented to be born and made man, and that He is not a man from men—this seems to me not only paradoxical but even foolish."

特來弗說：「關於這些事你的看法我們也聽見了。那麼，請從你停下的地方再拾起論題，把它講完。因為在我看來，這似乎是極其荒謬、且全然無法證明的事。因為你說這位基督在萬世之先就先存為神，然後又甘願降生、成為人，並且他不是出於人的人——這在我看來不僅荒謬，甚至愚蠢。」

3-48:2

Κἀγὼ πρὸς ταῦτα ἔφην· Οἶδ ὅτι παράδοξος ὁ λόγος δοκεῖ εἶναι, καὶ μάλιστα τοῖς ἀπὸ τοῦ γένους ὑμῶν, οἵτινες τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ οὔτε νοῆσαι οὔτε ποιῆσαί ποτε βεβούλησθε, ἀλλὰ τὰ τῶν διδασκάλων ὑμῶν, ὡς αὐτὸς ὁ θεὸς βοᾷ. Ἤδη μέντοι, ὦ Τρύφων, εἶπον, οὐκ ἀπόλλυται τὸ τοῦτον εἶναι Χριστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ, ἐὰν ἀποδεῖξαι μὴ δύνωμαι ὅτι καὶ προϋπῆρχεν υἱὸς τοῦ ποιητοῦ τῶν ὅλων, θεὸς ὤν, καὶ γεγέννηται ἄνθρωπος διὰ τῆς παρθένου

And to this I said: "I know that the argument seems paradoxical, and especially to those of your race, who have never been willing either to understand or to do the things of God, but the things of your teachers, as God Himself cries out. Nevertheless, O Trypho," I said, "the truth that this man is the Christ of God is not destroyed even if I should be unable to demonstrate that He also pre-existed as Son of the Maker of all things, being God, and was born a man through the virgin."

對此我說：「我知道這論點似乎荒謬，尤其對你們同族而言，他們從不肯明白或遵行神的事，反倒遵行你們教師的事，正如神自己所呼喊的。但特來弗啊，」我說，「即使我不能證明他也曾先存為萬有創造者的兒子、本是神、並藉童女降生為人，這人是神的基督這真理也不會因此被推翻。」

Ἀλλ ἐκ παντὸς ἀποδεικνυμένου ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ τοῦ θεοῦ, ὅστις οὗτος ἔσται, ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ἀποδεικνύω ὅτι προϋπῆρχε καὶ γεννηθῆναι ἄνθρωπος ὁμοιοπαθὴς ἡμῖν, σάρκα ἔχων, κατὰ τὴν τοῦ πατρὸς βουλὴν ὑπέμεινεν, ἐν τούτῳ πεπλανῆσθαί με μόνον λέγειν δίκαιον, ἀλλὰ μὴ ἀρνεῖσθαι ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Χριστός, ἐὰν φαίνηται ὡς ἄνθρωπος ἐξ ἀνθρώπων γεννηθείς, καὶ ἐκλογὴ γενόμενος εἰς τὸ Χριστὸν εἶναι ἀποδεικνύηται

"But provided it be in every way demonstrated that this man is the Christ of God—whoever this one is to be—even if I do not demonstrate that He pre-existed and consented, according to the will of the Father, to be born a man of like passions with us, having flesh, then it is just to say only that I have erred in this point, but not to deny that this man is the Christ, if He should appear to have been born as a man from men, and be shown to have become Christ by election."

「但只要在各方面都已證明這人是神的基督——無論這一位是誰——即使我未能證明他曾先存、並照父的旨意甘願降生為與我們同樣有情感、有肉身的人，那麼公道的說法只是我在這一點上有錯，而不是否認這人就是基督，倘若他顯為是出於人而生的人，並被證明是因揀選而成為基督的。」

3-48:4

Καὶ γάρ εἰσί τινες, ὦ φίλοι, ἔλεγον, ἀπὸ τοῦ ὑμετέρου γένους ὁμολογοῦντες αὐτὸν Χριστὸν εἶναι, ἄνθρωπον δὲ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων γενόμενον ἀποφαινόμενοι· οἷς οὐ συντίθεμαι, οὐδ ἂν πλεῖστοι ταὐτά μοι δοξάσαντες εἴποιεν, ἐπειδὴ οὐκ ἀνθρωπείοις διδάγμασι κεκελεύσμεθα ὑπ αὐτοῦ τοῦ Χριστοῦ πείθεσθαι, ἀλλὰ τοῖς διὰ τῶν μακαρίων προφητῶν κηρυχθεῖσι καὶ δι αὐτοῦ διδαχθεῖσι

"For indeed there are some, my friends," I said, "of your race who confess Him to be Christ, but declare Him to have been a man born of men; with whom I do not agree, nor would I, even if very many who hold the same opinions as I should say so, since we have been commanded by Christ Himself to be persuaded not by human teachings, but by the things proclaimed through the blessed prophets and taught by Him."

「朋友們，因為你們同族中確有一些人，」我說，「承認他是基督，卻宣稱他是出於人而生的人；我不贊同他們，即便有許多與我持相同看法的人這樣說，我也不贊同，因為我們蒙基督自己吩咐，不要被人的教訓所說服，乃要被那些藉蒙福的先知所宣告、並由他自己所教導的事所說服。」
