And I would recite the whole Psalm, that you may hear His piety toward the Father, and how He refers all things to Him, as one who through Him asks to be saved from this death, at the same time showing in the Psalm what kind of men they were who banded together against Him, and proving that He truly became a man capable of suffering.
It is this: 'O God, my God, attend to me; why have You forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my transgressions. O my God, I will cry by day to You, and You will not hear, and by night, and it is not for folly in me. But You dwell in the holy place, the praise of Israel. In You our fathers hoped; they hoped, and You delivered them. To You they cried and were saved; in You they hoped and were not put to shame.'
'But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me have mocked me; they spoke with their lips, they shook the head: He hoped in the Lord; let Him deliver him, let Him save him, since He delights in him. For You are He that drew me out of the womb; my hope from the breasts of my mother. Upon You was I cast from the womb; from my mother's belly You are my God. Depart not from me, for trouble is near, for there is none to help me.'
'Many bulls have compassed me; fat bulls have beset me round; they opened their mouth against me as a ravening and roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are scattered. My heart is become like melting wax in the midst of my belly; my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws, and You have brought me down to the dust of death; for many dogs have encircled me, the assembly of the wicked have beset me round. They pierced my hands and my feet, they counted all my bones; they themselves looked and stared upon me.'
'They divided my garments among themselves, and upon my clothing they cast lots. But You, O Lord, remove not Your help far from me; attend to my succour. Deliver my soul from the sword, and my only-begotten from the power of the dog; save me from the lion's mouth, and my lowliness from the horns of the unicorns. I will declare Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You. You that fear the Lord, praise Him; all you seed of Jacob, glorify Him; let all the seed of Israel fear before Him.'
