3-47:1
And Trypho again said: "But if someone, knowing that these things are so, together with knowing—obviously—that this man is the Christ, and having believed in Him and obeyed Him, wishes also to keep these things, will he be saved?" he inquired. And I said: "As it seems to me, O Trypho, I say that such a one will be saved, provided he does not strive in every way to persuade other people—I mean those from the nations who through Christ have been circumcised away from error—to keep these same things along with him, saying that they will not be saved unless they keep them, as you yourself were doing at the beginning of our discussion, declaring that I would not be saved unless I kept them."
And he said: "Why, then, did you say, 'As it seems to me, such a one will be saved,' unless there are some who say that such people will not be saved?" "There are, O Trypho," I answered, "who even dare not to share fellowship or hospitality with such people; with whom I do not agree. But if they themselves, on account of the weakness of their judgment, wish to observe what they can now of the precepts of Moses—which we understand to have been ordained on account of the hardness of heart of the people—while at the same time hoping in this Christ and keeping the eternal and natural acts of righteousness and piety, and choose to live together with the Christians and the faithful, as I said before, without persuading them either to be circumcised like themselves, or to keep the Sabbath, or to observe whatever other such things there are, then I declare that they ought to be received and to have fellowship in all things, as kindred and brothers."
"But if those of your race who say they believe in this Christ, O Trypho," I said, "compel by all means those from the nations who believe in this Christ to live according to the law ordained through Moses, or choose not to share with them such common life—these too I likewise do not accept."
"But those who are persuaded by them to follow the legal manner of life, while keeping the confession of the Christ of God, I suppose will perhaps also be saved. But those who have confessed and recognized this man to be the Christ, and for whatever cause have gone over to the legal manner of life, denying that this man is the Christ, and have not repented before death—these I declare will not be saved at all. And those of the seed of Abraham who live according to the law and do not believe in this Christ before the end of their life, I likewise declare will not be saved—and especially those who in the synagogues have cursed and continue to curse those who believe in this very Christ, so that they may obtain salvation and be delivered from the punishment in the fire."
"For the kindness and the love for mankind of God, and the immeasurableness of His riches, regards as righteous and sinless the one who repents of his sins, as He also declares through Ezekiel; and He regards as a sinner and unrighteous and impious the one who turns from piety or righteous conduct to unrighteousness and godlessness. Wherefore also our Lord Jesus Christ said: 'In whatever things I overtake you, in these also will I judge you.'"
