3-32:1
And when I had finished, Trypho said: "Sir, these Scriptures, and others like them, compel us to await as glorious and great the One who is received from the Ancient of Days as a Son of Man, and who takes up the eternal kingdom. But this so-called Christ of yours was without honor and without glory, so that he even fell under the uttermost curse that is in the Law of God; for he was crucified."
And I said to him: "If, my friends, I had not shown from the Scriptures which I previously cited that his form was without glory and his generation indescribable, and that in place of his death the rich would be put to death, and that by his stripes we were healed, and that he was foretold to be led as a sheep, and that there would be two comings of him—one in which he was pierced by you, and a second when you will recognize him whom you pierced, and your tribes will mourn, tribe against tribe, the women apart and the men apart—
—so that what is now in question may become still clearer to you, I will also tell you other words spoken through the blessed David, from which you will understand that the Christ is called Lord by the Holy Spirit of prophecy, and that the Lord, the Father of all, brought him up from the earth and seated him at his right hand, until he makes his enemies the footstool of his feet. This has been happening ever since our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven after rising from the dead, the times being fulfilled, and he who is to speak blasphemous and audacious things against the Most High being already at the doors—whose dominion for a time and times and half a time Daniel indicates.
And you, not knowing how long a period he is to hold dominion, think otherwise; for you interpret 'a time' to mean one hundred years. But if this is so, then at the very least the man of lawlessness must reign three hundred and fifty years, in order that what was said by the holy Daniel—'and times'—we may reckon to denote only two times.
And all these things which I have said by way of digression I say to you, so that you may at last be persuaded by what was spoken against you by God—that 'You are senseless sons'—and by this: 'Therefore, behold, I will proceed to remove this people, and I will remove them, and I will take away the wisdom of their wise men, and I will hide the understanding of their prudent men'—and so that you may cease leading both yourselves and those who hear you astray, and may learn from us who have been made wise by the grace of Christ.
These then are the words spoken through David: 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet. The Lord shall send forth the rod of power for you out of Zion; rule in the midst of your enemies. With you is dominion in the day of your power, in the splendors of your saints; from the womb, before the morning star, I begot you. The Lord has sworn and will not repent: You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord at your right hand has shattered kings in the day of his wrath. He shall judge among the nations, he shall fill them with corpses. He shall drink of the brook by the way; therefore he shall lift up his head.'
