All the sacrifices, then, made through this name, which Jesus the Christ appointed to be made—that is, at the thanksgiving of the bread and of the cup, which are made in every place of the earth by the Christians—God testifies beforehand to be well-pleasing to Him; but those made by you and by those priests of yours He rejects, saying: 'And I will not accept your sacrifices at your hands; for from the rising of the sun to its setting my name has been glorified, He says, among the nations, but you profane it.'
And even now, in your contentiousness, you say that God does not accept the sacrifices of those then dwelling in Jerusalem who were called Israelites, but that He said He would receive the prayers of those of that race who were then in the dispersion, and calls their prayers sacrifices. Now that prayers and thanksgivings, made by the worthy, are the only perfect and well-pleasing sacrifices to God, I too affirm.
For these alone Christians have received to perform, even in the remembrance of their food, both dry and liquid, in which also they call to mind the suffering which the Son of God suffered for them; whose name the high priests and teachers of your people have caused to be profaned throughout all the earth and blasphemed. These foul garments too, which have been put by you upon all who have become Christians from the name of Jesus, God will show to be taken away from us, when He shall raise all men, and shall establish some, incorruptible and immortal and free from sorrow, in the eternal and indissoluble kingdom, but shall send the others away into eternal punishment of fire.
But that you and your teachers deceive yourselves, in expounding that the word spoke concerning those of your race who were in the dispersion, saying that He said their prayers and sacrifices, made in every place, were pure and well-pleasing—know that you lie, and try in every way to deceive yourselves. For, first, not even now does your race extend from the rising of the sun to its setting, but there are nations among whom none of your race has yet dwelt.
For there is not even one single race of men whatsoever, whether of barbarians or Greeks or by whatever name they are called, or of those styled wagon-dwellers, or homeless, or dwelling in tents as herdsmen, among whom prayers and thanksgivings are not made to the Father and Maker of all through the name of the crucified Jesus. And then, at the time when the prophet Malachi said this, your dispersion throughout all the earth, in which you now are, had not yet come about, as is also demonstrated from the Scriptures.
