3-118:1

Ὥστε μᾶλλον παυσάμενοι τοῦ φιλεριστεῖν μετανοήσατε πρὶν ἐλθεῖν τὴν μεγάλην ἡμέραν τῆς κρίσεως, ἐν ᾗ κόπτεσθαι μέλλουσι πάντες οἱ ἀπὸ τῶν φυλῶν ὑμῶν ἐκκεντήσαντες τοῦτον τὸν Χριστόν, ὡς ἀπὸ γραφῆς ἀπέδειξα προειρημένον. Καὶ ὅτι ὤμοσε κύριος κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισεδέκ, καὶ τί τὸ προειρημένον ἐστίν, ἐξηγησάμην. Καὶ ὅτι περὶ τοῦ θάπτεσθαι μέλλοντος καὶ ἀνίστασθαι Χριστοῦ ἦν ἡ προφητεία τοῦ Ἡσαΐου, φήσαντος·Ἡ ταφὴ αὐτοῦ ᾔρται ἐκ τοῦ μέσου, προεῖπον. Καὶ ὅτι κριτὴς ζώντων καὶ νεκρῶν ἁπάντων αὐτὸς οὗτος ὁ Χριστός, εἶπον ἐν πολλοῖς

Wherefore rather cease from love of strife and repent before the great day of judgement comes, in which all those of your tribes who pierced this Christ shall mourn, as I have shown to have been foretold from Scripture. And that the Lord swore according to the order of Melchizedek, and what this thing foretold means, I have expounded. And that the prophecy of Isaiah concerned the Christ who was to be buried and to rise, when he said, 'His burial has been taken from the midst,' I have foretold. And that this same Christ is judge of all living and dead, I have said in many places.

Καὶ Νάθαν δὲ ὁμοίως περὶ τούτου λέγων πρὸς Δαυῒδ οὕτως ἐπήνεγκεν· Ἐγὼ ἔσομαι αὐτῷ εἰς πατέρα, καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται μοι εἰς υἱόν, καὶ τὸ ἔλεός μου οὐ μὴ ἀποστήσω ἀπ αὐτοῦ, καθὼς ἐποίησα ἀπὸ τῶν ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ· καὶ στήσω αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ μου καὶ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος. Καὶ τὸν ἡγούμενον δὲ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ οὐκ ἄλλον Ἰεζεκιὴλ λέγει ἢ τοῦτον αὐτόν. Οὗτος γὰρ ἐξαίρετος ἱερεὺς καὶ αἰώνιος βασιλεύς, ὁ Χριστός, ὡς υἱὸς θεοῦ· οὗ ἐν τῇ πάλιν παρουσίᾳ μὴ δόξητε λέγειν Ἡσαΐαν ἢ τοὺς ἄλλους προφήτας θυσίας ἀφ αἱμάτων ἢ σπονδῶν ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον ἀναφέρεσθαι, ἀλλὰ ἀληθινοὺς καὶ πνευματικοὺς αἴνους καὶ εὐχαριστίας

And Nathan likewise, speaking concerning Him to David, thus added: 'I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son; and my mercy I will not remove from him, as I did from those before him; and I will establish him in my house and in his kingdom for ever.' And Ezekiel says that the ruler in the house is no other than this very One. For He is the choice priest and eternal king, the Christ, as Son of God; at whose second coming do not suppose that Isaiah or the other prophets say sacrifices of blood or libations are offered upon the altar, but true and spiritual praises and thanksgivings.

Καὶ οὐ μάτην ἡμεῖς εἰς τοῦτον πεπιστεύκαμεν, οὐδ ἐπλανήθημεν ὑπὸ τῶν οὕτως διδαξάντων, ἀλλὰ καὶ θαυμαστῇ προνοίᾳ θεοῦ τοῦτο γέγονεν, ἵνα ἡμεῖς ὑμῶν, τῶν νομιζομένων οὐκ ὄντων δὲ οὔτε φιλοθέων οὔτε συνετῶν, συνετώτεροι καὶ θεοσεβέστεροι εὑρεθῶμεν διὰ τῆς κλήσεως τῆς καινῆς καὶ αἰωνίου διαθήκης, τουτέστι τοῦ Χριστοῦ

And not in vain have we believed in Him, nor have we been deceived by those who so taught us; but this came to pass by the wonderful providence of God, that we might be found wiser and more godly than you, who are reckoned, but are not, either lovers of God or men of understanding—through the calling of the new and eternal covenant, that is, of Christ.

我們信祂並非徒然，也不是被那些如此教導我們的人所欺哄；這乃是藉神奇妙的安排而成就的，好叫我們比你們被發現為更有智慧、更敬虔——你們被算為、實際卻不是愛神或有悟性的人——這是藉著那新而永遠之約，就是基督的呼召。

Τοῦτο θαυμάζων Ἡσαίας ἔφη· Καὶ συνέξουσι βασιλεῖς τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν· ὅτι οἷς οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη περὶ αὐτοῦ ὄψονται, καὶ οἳ οὐκ ἀκηκόασι συνήσουσι. Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσε τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν; Καὶ ὁ βραχίων κυρίου τίνι ἀπεκαλύφθη; Καὶ ταῦτα λέγων, ἔφην, ὦ Τρύφων, ὡς ἐγχωρεῖ, διὰ τοὺς σήμερον σὺν σοὶ ἀφιγμένους ταὐτὰ λέγειν πειρῶμαι, βραχέως μέντοι καὶ περικεκομμένως

Marvelling at this, Isaiah said: 'And kings shall shut their mouths; for they to whom no report was made concerning Him shall see, and they who have not heard shall understand. Lord, who has believed our report? And the arm of the Lord, to whom has it been revealed?' And in saying these things, I said, O Trypho, I try, so far as I can, to say the same things for the sake of those who have come with you today—briefly, however, and in abridged form.

以賽亞希奇這事，說：「列王必因祂閉口；因為那未曾得傳於祂的人必看見，那未曾聽見的必領悟。主啊，誰信我們所傳的呢？耶和華的膀臂向誰顯露呢？」我說，特來弗啊，我說這些話，是盡我所能為今天與你同來的人，把同樣的話再說一遍——只是簡略而扼要地說。

Κὰκεῖνος· Εὖ ποιεῖς, ἔφη· κἂν διὰ πλειόνων δὲ καὶ τὰ αὐτὰ πάλιν λέγῃς, χαίρειν με καὶ τοὺς συνόντας τῇ ἀκροάσει γίνωσκε

And he said: You do well; and even if you say the same things again at greater length, know that you give pleasure to me and to those present at the hearing.
