"I will give you yet another testimony, my friends," I said, "from the Scriptures, that God begot from Himself, before all creatures, a certain rational Power, who is also called by the Holy Spirit 'the Glory of the Lord,' and sometimes Son, sometimes Wisdom, sometimes Angel, sometimes God, and sometimes Lord and Word; and sometimes He calls Himself Commander-in-chief, having appeared in the form of a man to Joshua the son of Nun. For He can be designated by all these names, both from ministering to the Father's will and from having been begotten from the Father by His will."

And it is like what we see happening in the case of fire: that which is kindled from another is itself seen to be another, while that from which the kindling came is not diminished, but remains the same; and that which has been kindled from it likewise exists, without diminishing that from which it was kindled."
