1-25:25
Second, that out of every race of men we, who once worshiped Dionysus the son of Semele and Apollo the son of Leto—who, on account of their love of males, did such things as are shameful even to mention—and those who worshiped Persephone and Aphrodite, who were maddened on account of Adonis, whose mysteries also you celebrate, or Asclepius, or some other of the so-called gods—we, though death is threatened, have through Jesus Christ despised these, and have dedicated ourselves to the unbegotten and impassible God, who, we are persuaded, never came in lustful frenzy upon Antiope and the other women in like manner, nor upon Ganymede; nor was he set free by the aid of that hundred-handed one through the help of Thetis; nor, on this account, did he take anxious thought that Achilles, the son of Thetis, should destroy many of the Greeks for the sake of his concubine Briseis. And we pity those who are persuaded by such tales, and we recognize the demons to be the authors of these things.
