Καὶ τὸ λουτρὸν δὴ τοῦτο ἀκούσαντες οἱ δαίμονες διὰ τοῦ προφήτου κεκηρυγμένον ἐνήργησαν καὶ ῥαντίζειν ἑαυτοὺς τοὺς εἰς τὰ ἱερὰ αὐτῶν ἐπιβαίνοντας καὶ προσιέναι αὐτοῖς μέλλοντας, λοιβὰς καὶ κνίσας ἀποτελοῦντας· τέλεον δὲ καὶ λούεσθαι ἐπιόντας πρὶν ἐλθεῖν ἐπὶ τὰ ἱερά, ἔνθα ἵδρυνται, ἐνεργοῦσι. Καὶ γὰρ τὸ ὑπολύεσθαι ἐπιβαίνοντας τοῖς ἱεροῖς καὶ τοῖς αὐτοῖς τοὺς θρησκεύοντας κελεύεσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν ἱερατευόντων ἐκ τῶν συμβάντων Μωϋσεῖ τῷ εἰρημένῳ προφήτῃ μαθόντες οἱ δαίμονες ἐμιμήσαντο. Κατ ἐκεῖνο γὰρ τοῦ καιροῦ ὅτε Μωϋσῆς ἐκελεύσθη κατελθὼν εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἐξαγαγεῖν τὸν ἐκεῖ λαὸν τῶν Ἰσραηλιτῶν, ποιμαίνοντος αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἀῤῥαβικῇ γῇ πρόβατα τοῦ πρὸς μητρὸς θείου, ἐν ἰδέᾳ πυρὸς ἐκ βάτου προσωμίλησεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἡμέτερος Χριστὸς καὶ εἶπεν· Ὑπόλυσαι τὰ ὑποδήματά σου καὶ προσελθὼν ἄκουσον.Ὁ δὲ ὑπολυσάμενος καὶ προσελθὼν ἀκήκοε κατελθεῖν εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἐξαγαγεῖν τὸν ἐκεῖ λαὸν τῶν Ἰσραηλιτῶν, καὶ δύναμιν ἰσχυρὰν ἔλαβε παρὰ τοῦ λαλήσαντος αὐτῷ ἐν ἰδέᾳ πυρὸς Χριστοῦ, καὶ κατελθὼν ἐξήγαγε τὸν λαὸν ποιήσας μεγάλα καὶ θαυμάσια,ἃ εἰ βούλεσθε μαθεῖν, ἐκ τῶν συγγραμμάτων ἐκείνου ἀκριβῶς μαθήσεσθε
那些鬼魔聽見藉先知所宣告的這洗禮，便設法使那些進入他們廟宇、將要前來向他們獻祭奠酒與焚脂的人，也將水灑在自己身上;甚至使前來敬拜的人，在進入安放偶像的廟宇之前，要完全沐浴潔淨。至於祭司命令敬拜者在進入廟宇及偶像所立之處時要脫鞋，這也是鬼魔從前述先知摩西所經歷的事上學來而加以仿效的。因為當摩西在阿拉伯地為他舅父牧羊時，神吩咐他下到埃及去，將那裡以色列的百姓領出來;那時我們的基督從荊棘中以火焰的形像向他顯現，說：「把你腳上的鞋脫下來，前來聽我說。」摩西脫了鞋、前來，就聽見要他下埃及去，領出那裡以色列的百姓;他從那以火焰形像向他說話的基督領受了大能，下去領出了百姓，行了大而奇妙的事;這些事你們若願意明白，可以從他的著作中詳細地學到。
And the demons, having heard this washing proclaimed through the prophet, contrived that those who enter their temples and are about to approach them, offering libations and burnt fat, should sprinkle themselves; and indeed they bring it about that those who come worship should wash themselves completely before going to the temples where their images are set up. For the command of the priests to those who worship to take off their sandals when entering the temples and the places where these idols stand, the demons learned and imitated from the things that happened to Moses the aforesaid prophet. For at that time when Moses was commanded to go down into Egypt and lead out from there the people of the Israelites, while he was shepherding in the land of Arabia the sheep of his maternal uncle, our Christ spoke with him in the appearance of fire from a bush, and said, "Take off your sandals, and draw near and listen." And he, having taken off his sandals and drawn near, heard that he was to go down into Egypt and lead out the people of the Israelites there; and he received mighty power from Christ, who spoke to him in the appearance of fire, and going down he led out the people, doing great and marvelous things; which, if you wish to learn, you may learn accurately from his writings.
