3-36:1
And he answered: "Let these things be as you say—that the Christ was prophesied to be subject to suffering, and is called a stone, and is to come in glory after his first coming, in which it was proclaimed that he would appear subject to suffering, and is then to become the judge of all and an eternal king and priest. But that this is the one concerning whom these things were prophesied—prove it."
3-36:2
And I said: "As you wish, O Trypho, I will come to these proofs which you desire in the fitting place," I said; "but for now you will permit me first to call to mind those prophecies which I wish, to demonstrate that the Christ is also called God and Lord of hosts, and Jacob, in a parable by the Holy Spirit; and that your interpreters, as God cries out, are foolish, in saying that it was spoken not concerning the Christ but concerning Solomon, when he brought the tabernacle of testimony into the temple which he had built."
3-36:3
"This is the psalm of David: 'The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the inhabited world, and all who dwell in it. He has founded it upon the seas, and prepared it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He who is innocent in his hands and pure in his heart, who has not taken up his soul in vain, and has not sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.'"
3-36:4
"He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Savior. This is the generation of those who seek the Lord, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Lift up your gates, you rulers; and be lifted up, you everlasting gates, and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty in battle. Lift up your gates, you rulers; and be lifted up, you everlasting gates, and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory."
3-36:5
Now it has been shown that the "Lord of hosts" is not Solomon; rather it is our Christ, who, when He rose from the dead and was ascending into heaven, the rulers appointed by God in the heavens are commanded to open the gates of heaven, so that He who is the King of glory might enter in, and having ascended might sit at the right hand of the Father, until He makes His enemies a footstool for His feet, as is declared through another psalm.
3-36:6
For since the rulers in heaven saw Him having a form without beauty, dishonored and inglorious, and did not recognize Him, they inquired: "Who is this King of glory?" And the Holy Spirit answers them, either in the person of the Father or in His own person: "The Lord of hosts, He Himself is the King of glory." For neither concerning Solomon—glorious king as he was—nor concerning the tabernacle of testimony, would anyone of those who stood at the gates of the temple of Jerusalem have dared to say: "Who is this King of glory?" Everyone whatsoever will admit this.
