Καὶ πάλιν πῶς δι αὐτοῦ Ἡσαΐου λέλεκται, ὅτι οἱ οὐ προσδοκήσαντες αὐτὸν λαοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν προσκυνήσουσιν αὐτόν, οἱ δὲ ἀεὶ προσδοκῶντες Ἰουδαῖοι ἀγνοήσουσι παραγενόμενον αὐτόν· ἐλέχθησαν δὲ οἱ λόγοι ὡς ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ τοῦ Χριστοῦ. Εἰσὶ δὲ οὗτοι· Ἐμφανὴς ἐγενήθην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ἐπερωτῶσιν, εὑρέθην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ζητοῦσιν· εἶπον· Ἰδού εἰμι ἔθνει, οἳ οὐκ ἐκάλεσαν τὸ ὄνομά μου. Ἐξεπέτασα τὰς χεῖράς μου ἐπὶ λαὸν ἀπειθοῦντα καὶ ἀντιλέγοντα, ἐπὶ τοὺς πορευομένους ἐν ὁδῷ οὐ καλῇ, ἀλλ ὀπίσω τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν.Ὁ λαὸς ὁ παροξύνων ἐναντίον μου. Ἰουδαῖοι γάρ, ἔχοντες τὰς προφητείας καὶ ἀεὶ προσδοκήσαντες τὸν Χριστόν, παραγενόμενον ἠγνόησαν, οὐ μόνον δέ, ἀλλὰ καὶ παρεχρήσαντο· οἱ δὲ ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν μηδέποτε μηδὲν ἀκούσαντες περὶ τοῖ Χριστοῦ, μέχρις οὖ οἱ ἀπὸ Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐξελθόντες ἀπόστολοι αὐτοῦ ἐμήνυσαν τὰ περὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς προφητείας παρέδωκαν, πληρωθέντες χαρᾶς καὶ πίστεως τοῖς εἰδώλοις ἀπετάξαντο καὶ τῷ ἀγεννήτῳ θεῷ διὰ τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἑαυτοὺς ἀνέθηκαν. Ὅτι δὲ προεγινώσκετο τὰ δύσφημα ταῦτα λεχθησόμενα κατὰ τῶν τὸν Χριστὸν ὁμολογούντων, καὶ ὡς εἶεν τάλανες οἱ δυσφημοῦντες αὐτὸν καὶ τὰ παλαιὰ ἔθη καλὸν εἶναι τηρεῖν λέγοντες, ἀκούσατε τῶν βραχυεπῶς εἰρημένων διὰ Ἡσαῒου. Ἔστι δὲ ταῦτα· Οὐαὶ τοῖς λέγουσι τὸ γλυκὺ πικρὸν καὶ τὸ πικρὸν γλυκύ
再者，請聽藉這同一位以賽亞如何說：那不指望他的列邦之民要敬拜他，而那向來指望他的猶太人，在他降臨時卻不認識他；這些話是以基督自己的身分說的。其話如下：「素來沒有訪問我的，現在向他們顯現；沒有尋找我的，我叫他們遇見；我對那不稱呼我名的國民說：『我在這裡，我在這裡。』我整天伸手招呼那悖逆頂嘴的百姓，就是那些行在不善之道上、隨從自己罪孽的人；這百姓當面惹我發怒。」因為猶太人雖有眾預言，又向來指望基督，他降臨時卻不認識他；不但如此，反倒苦待他。然而那從列邦來的人，在從耶路撒冷出去的眾使徒傳報關於他的事、並把眾預言交付他們以前，從未聽過關於基督的任何事；他們既滿了喜樂和信心，便棄絕偶像，藉基督把自己獻給那非受生的神。至於這些謗讟之言要說來敵擋承認基督的人，早已被預知；而那些謗讟他、並說守舊俗為美之人乃是可憐的，這事請聽藉以賽亞所簡短說的。其話如下：「禍哉，那稱惡為善、稱善為惡的人。」
And again, hear how it was said through this same Isaiah that the peoples of the nations who did not expect him should worship him, while the Jews who always expected him should fail to recognize him when he came; and the words were spoken as from the person of Christ himself. They are these: "I became manifest to those who did not ask after me; I was found by those who did not seek me; I said, Behold, I am here, to a nation that did not call upon my name. I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contradicting people, to those who walk in a way that is not good, but after their own sins — a people that provokes me to my face." For the Jews, having the prophecies and always expecting Christ, failed to recognize him when he came; and not only that, but they even maltreated him. But the people from the nations, who had never heard anything about Christ until the apostles who went forth from Jerusalem announced the things concerning him and handed over the prophecies, being filled with joy and faith, renounced their idols and dedicated themselves to the unbegotten God through Christ. And that it was foreknown that these slanderous words would be spoken against those who confess Christ, and that those would be wretched who slander him and who say it is good to keep the old customs, hear what was briefly said through Isaiah. These are the words: "Woe to those who call the sweet bitter and the bitter sweet."
