For the other nations are not so deeply implicated in this injustice against us and against Christ as you are, who are the cause to them also of their evil prejudice against the Righteous One and against us who follow him. For after you crucified that only blameless and righteous man—through whose stripes healing comes to those who through him draw near to the Father—when you knew that he had risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, as the prophecies foretold would happen, you not only did not repent of the evils you had done, but you chose out picked men from Jerusalem and then sent them into all the earth, declaring that a godless sect of Christians had arisen, and reciting those things which all who do not know us say against us. So you are the cause of injustice not only to yourselves but also to absolutely all other men.
And rightly does Isaiah cry out: "Because of you my name is blasphemed among the nations." And: "Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil plan against themselves, saying, 'Let us bind the righteous one, for he is troublesome to us.' Therefore they shall eat the fruits of their works. Woe to the lawless one; evil shall befall him according to the works of his hands." And again in other passages: "Woe to those who draw their sins along as with a long cord, and their iniquities as with a heifer's yoke-strap, who say, 'Let his swiftness draw near, and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel come, that we may know it.' Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put light for darkness and darkness for light, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter."
Against the only blameless and righteous Light, sent to men from God, you were eager to have bitter, dark, and unjust things spoken throughout the whole earth. For he seemed troublesome to you when he cried out among you: "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a den of robbers." And he overturned the tables of the money-changers in the temple.
And he cried out: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and rue, but the love of God and judgment you disregard; you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones." And to the scribes: "Woe to you, scribes, for you hold the keys, and you yourselves do not enter, and you hinder those who are entering; you blind guides!"
