And Trypho said: "O man, it would have been better for us to have obeyed our teachers, who laid down as law that we should converse with none of you, and that we should not share in these discussions with you; for you say many blasphemous things, since you think to persuade us that this crucified one came to be before Moses and Aaron, and spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; then that He became a man, was crucified, ascended into heaven, came again to the earth, and is to be worshiped."
And I answered: "I know that, as the word of God has said, this great wisdom of the Maker of all things and of God the Almighty has been hidden from you. Therefore, having sympathy for you, I strive earnestly that you may understand these paradoxical truths of ours; but if not, then at least that I myself may be guiltless in the day of judgment. For you shall hear yet other sayings that seem still more paradoxical; but do not be troubled—rather, becoming more eager hearers and examiners, remain so, despising the tradition of your teachers, since they are convicted of not being able to understand the things given by God through the prophetic Spirit, but rather choosing to teach their own notions."
"So then, in the forty-fourth psalm these things are likewise spoken concerning Christ: 'My heart has uttered a good word; I tell my works to the King. My tongue is the pen of a swift-writing scribe. You are fairer in beauty than the sons of men; grace has been poured out upon Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever. Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O mighty One, in Your splendor and Your beauty; and bend Your bow, and prosper, and reign, for the sake of truth and meekness and righteousness; and Your right hand shall guide You wonderfully. Your arrows are sharpened, O mighty One; the peoples shall fall under You, in the heart of the King's enemies.'"
"'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; the scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your companions. Myrrh and aloes and cassia perfume Your garments, from the ivory palaces, out of which they have made You glad. The daughters of kings are in Your honor; the queen stood at Your right hand, clothed in gold-woven raiment, richly adorned. Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear; and forget your people and your father's house; and the King shall desire your beauty, for He is your Lord, and they shall worship Him.'"
"'And the daughter of Tyre shall come with gifts; the rich among the people shall entreat Your favor. All the glory of the King's daughter is within, clothed in golden fringes, richly adorned. Virgins shall be brought to the King after her; her companions shall be brought to You. They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing; they shall be led into the King's temple. Instead of Your fathers, sons shall be born to You; You shall appoint them rulers over all the earth. I will commemorate Your name in every generation and generation; therefore the peoples shall give thanks to You forever and unto ages of ages.'"
