122:1
MATTH. XXI, 1-9; MARC. XI, 1-11; Luc. XIX, 2938. At illi dixerunt, quia Domino necessarius est; ct dimiserunt illos.
(Matt. 21:1-9; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:29-38) And when they drew nigh to Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto mount Olivet, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them: Go ye into the village that is over against you, and immediately you shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her, whereon no man hath ever sat; loose them, and bring them to me. And if any man shall say anything to you, say ye that the Lord hath need of his service; and forthwith he will let them go. And the disciples going, did as Jesus commanded them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said to them: Why loose you the colt? But they said: Because the Lord hath need of him; and they let them go.
And they brought the colt to Jesus; and laying their garments on the colt, they set him thereon. Now this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: Tell ye the daughter of Sion: Behold, thy king cometh to thee, meek, sitting upon an ass and a colt, the foal of her that is used to the yoke (Isa. 62:11; Zach. 9:9). (John 12:16) These things his disciples did not know at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him. And as he went, many spread their garments in the way; and others cut down boughs from the trees, and strewed them in the way.
Hosanna in excelsis. — JOAN. XII, 12-14.
And when he was now coming near the descent of mount Olivet, the whole multitude of those that were coming down began with joy to praise God with a loud voice. And the multitudes that went before and that followed cried, saying: Hosanna to the son of David; blessed is he that cometh as king in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory on high; blessed be the kingdom of our father David that cometh. Hosanna in the highest. (John 12:12-14) And on the next day a great multitude that was come to the festival day, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried: Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel. (Luke 19:39-44) And some of the Pharisees from amongst the multitude said to him:
122:4
Magister, inprepa discipulos tuos.
Master, rebuke thy disciples. To whom he said: I say to you that if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out. And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying: For if thou also hadst known, and that in this thy day, the things that are to thy peace; but now they are hidden from thy eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, and thy enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and shall straiten thee on every side, and beat thee flat to the ground, and thy children who are in thee; and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone, because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation.
