MATTH. IV, 1-11; MARC. I, 12, 13; Luc. IV, 1-13. Tunc Jesus ductus est in desertum a spiritu, ut tentaretur a diabolo. Et cum jejunasset quadraginta diebus et quadraginta noctibus, postea esuriit. Et accedens tentator dixit: Si Filius Dei es, die ut lapides isti panes fiant. Qui respondens, dixit: Scriptum est: Non in pane solo vivit homo, sed in omni verbo quod procedit de ore Dei (Deut. VIII, 4). Tunc assumpsit eum diabolus in sanctam civitatem, et statuit eum supra pinnaculum templi, et dixit ei: Si Filius Dei es, mitte te deorsum. Scriptum est enim: Quia angelis suis mandavit de te, et in manibus totlent te, ne forte offendas ad lapidem pedem tuum ( Psal. xc, 11). Ait illi Dominus:
Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry. And the tempter coming, said to him: If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. Who answered and said: It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God (Deut. 8:3). Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him upon the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down. For it is written: That he hath given his angels charge over thee, and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone (Ps. 90:11-12). The Lord said to him:
馬太福音四章1至11節；馬可福音一章12至13節；路加福音四章1至13節。當時，耶穌被聖靈引到曠野，受魔鬼的試探。他禁食四十晝夜，後來就餓了。那試探人的進前來對他說：「你若是神的兒子，可以吩咐這些石頭變成食物。」耶穌卻回答說：「經上記著說：人活著，不是單靠食物，乃是靠神口裡所出的一切話」（申命記八章3節）。魔鬼就帶他進了聖城，叫他站在殿頂上，對他說：「你若是神的兒子，可以跳下去，因為經上記著說：主要為你吩咐他的使者，用手托著你，免得你的腳碰在石頭上」（詩篇九十一篇11至12節）。主對他說：

Rursum scriptum est: Non tentabis Dominum Deum tuum (Deut. vi, 16). Iterum assumpsit eum diabolus in montem excelsum valde, et ostendit ei omnia regna mundi, et gloriam eorum. Et dixit illi: Hæc omnia tibi dabo, si cadens adoraveris me. Tuncdicit ei Jesus: Vade, Satanas; scriptum est enim: Dominum Deum tuum adorabis, et illi soli servies (1 bid., 23). — Luc. iv, 13. Et consummata omni tentatlone, tunc reliquit eum diabolus usque ad tempus.- MARC. i, 13. Eratque cum bestiis. Et ecce angeli accesserunt, et ministrabant ei.
Again it is written: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God (Deut. 6:16). Again the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them. And he said to him: All these will I give thee, if falling down thou wilt adore me. Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan; for it is written: The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve (Deut. 6:13). — Luke 4:13. And all the temptation being ended, the devil departed from him for a time. — Mark 1:13. And he was with the beasts. And behold, angels came and ministered to him.
「經上又記著說：不可試探主你的神」（申命記六章16節）。魔鬼又帶他上了一座最高的山，將世上的萬國與萬國的榮華都指給他看，對他說：「你若俯伏拜我，我就把這一切都賜給你。」耶穌說：「撒但，退去吧！因為經上記著說：當拜主你的神，單要事奉他」（申命記六章13節）。——路加福音四章13節。魔鬼用完了各樣的試探，就暫時離開耶穌。——馬可福音一章13節。耶穌與野獸同在一處，並有天使來伺候他。
