(Matt. 21:10-16; Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-46; John 2:14-21) And when he was come into Jerusalem, the whole city was moved, saying: Who is this? And the people said: This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth of Galilee. And Jesus went into the temple of God. And when he had made as it were a scourge of little cords, he cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, the sheep also and the oxen; and he poured out the money of the changers, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers and the chairs of them that sold doves. And he saith to them: Take these things hence, and make not the house of my Father a house of traffic. It is written: My house shall be called the house of prayer to all nations, but you have made it a den of thieves (Isa. 56:7; Jer. 7:11).
And he suffered not that any man should carry a vessel through the temple. And his disciples remembered that it was written: The zeal of thy house hath eaten me up (Ps. 69:9). And there came to him the blind and the lame in the temple, and he healed them. And the chief priests and scribes, seeing the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple and saying: Hosanna to the son of David, were moved with indignation, and said to him: Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus said to them: Yea. Have you never read: Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou hast perfected praise (Ps. 8:3)? The Jews therefore answered and said to him: What sign dost thou show unto us, seeing thou dost these things? Jesus answered and said to them:
Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews then said: Six and forty years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days? But he spoke of the temple of his body.
