Matthew 9:18-26; Mark 5:22-43; Luke 8:41-56. While he was saying these things to them, behold, a certain ruler of the synagogue named Jairus came and worshiped him, saying: My daughter has just now died; but come, lay your hand upon her, and she will live. And Jesus rose and followed him, and his disciples. And behold, a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years, and had endured much from many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and could be cured by none, but rather grew worse, came up behind in the crowd and touched the hem of his garment. For she said within herself: If I but touch his garment, I shall be made well.
And immediately the flow of her blood stopped, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately perceiving in himself the power that had gone out from him, turned to the crowd and said: Who touched me? When all denied it, Peter and those who were with him said: Master, the crowds press and throng you, and do you say, 'Who touched me?' And Jesus said: Someone touched me, for I knew that power had gone out from me. And he looked around to see her who had done this. But the woman, seeing that she was not hidden, came trembling, and fell down before his feet, and declared before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she had immediately been healed. And he said to her: Daughter, your faith has made you well;
go in peace, and be healed of your affliction. While he was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue, saying to him: Your daughter is dead; why trouble the master any further? But Jesus, hearing this word, said to the ruler of the synagogue: Do not fear; only believe, and she will be saved. And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And when he had come into the house of the ruler of the synagogue, he saw the flute players and the crowd making a tumult, weeping and wailing greatly. And entering in, he said: Depart, for the girl is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he, having put them all out, took the father and mother of the girl, and those who were with him, and entered where the girl was lying.
And taking her by the hand, He said to her: 'Talitha, cumi,' which is interpreted: 'Maiden (I say to thee), arise.' And her spirit returned, and immediately the maiden rose up and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a very great amazement. And He charged them vehemently that no one should know it; and He commanded that something be given her to eat. And this report went forth into all that land.
