Hæc sunt cantica Dei quæ canit catholica Ecclesia Dei . Hæc sunt quæ hic noster conventus sono etiam vocis exercet : hæc non solum cantorem non res lvunt , sed potius stringunt . Haec cantica placent l'eo , ubi totum quod agitur spectat ad gloriam Creatoris . Merito idem propheta omnes et omnia ad laudem Dei cuncta gnbernantis hortaiur dicens : Omnis spiritus laudet Dominum (Psal . CL , 6). Se ipsum quoque pollicens laudatorem dicebat : Laudabo nomen Domini cum cantico , et magnificabo eum in laude (Psal . LXIII , 51). Laudate Dominum in vita vestra , immolate Deo sacrilicium laudis pro anima et vita vestra , et per ipsum ostenditur vobis in anima vestra , qua ad ejus perveniatis salutare .
These are the songs of God which the catholic Church of God sings. These are what this our assembly performs even with the sound of the voice: these not only do not loosen the singer, but rather strengthen him. These songs please God, where all that is done looks to the glory of the Creator. Rightly does the same prophet exhort all men and all things to the praise of God who governs all things, saying: Let every spirit praise the Lord (Ps. 150:6). Promising himself also as a praiser, he said: I will praise the name of the Lord with a song, and I will magnify him with praise (Ps. 68:31). Praise the Lord in your life, offer to God the sacrifice of praise for your soul and your life, and through it is shown to you in your soul whereby you may attain to his salvation.

Delectat Dominum nostrum de pura conscientia laus emissa , sicul idem hortatur hymnigraphus , dicens : Laudate Dominum , quia bonus est psalmus ; Deo nostro sit jucunda decoraque laudatio (Psal , CilIa v , 3). Hanc scientiam Gerens . hoc officium Deo placitum sciens idem Psalmista testatur : Septies in die laudem dixi tibi (Psal . CXVIII , 464). Et adhuc amplius aliquid pollicetur : Et lingua , inquit , mea meditabitur justitiam tuam , tota die laudem tuam (Psal . XXXIV , 28). Sentiebat enim sine dubio de tali opere beneficium , sicut ipse commemorans dicit : Laudans invocabo Dominum , et ab inimicis mei salvus ero (Psal . XXVI , 4).
Praise sent up from a pure conscience delights our Lord, as the same hymn-writer exhorts, saying: Praise the Lord, for the psalm is good; let praise to our God be joyous and comely (Ps. 146:1). Bearing this knowledge, knowing this office to be pleasing to God, the same Psalmist testifies: Seven times a day have I given praise to thee (Ps. 118:164). And he promises yet something more: And my tongue, he says, shall meditate on thy justice, thy praise all the day long (Ps. 34:28). For he felt, without doubt, the benefit from such a work, as he himself recalling says: Praising I will call upon the Lord, and I shall be saved from my enemies (Ps. 17:4).

Armed with such a safeguard and such a shield, he had both laid low that mighty giant Goliath, and had often carried off victory over the foreigners.
