133:1
MATTH. XXII, 23-33; MARC. XII, 18-27; Luc. XX, 27-39.
On that day the Sadducees came to him, who say there is no resurrection, and they questioned him, saying: 'Master, Moses said: If anyone die having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed for his brother. Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first, having married a wife, died, and having no seed, left his wife to his brother. Likewise the second died without a child, and the third took her, and all seven, and they left no seed. Last of all the woman also died. In the resurrection therefore, whose wife of them shall she be? For they all had her.' And Jesus said to them:
133:2
III, 6)?
You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. The children of this world marry and are given in marriage; but those who are accounted worthy of that world, and of the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor take wives; for neither can they die any more, but they are as the angels of God in heaven; and they are sons of God, since they are sons of the resurrection. But that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, at the bush, how God spoke to him, when God said: 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob' (Exod. 3:6)? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for all live unto him. You therefore greatly err. And the multitudes, hearing it, were astonished at his teaching. And some of the scribes, answering, said:
133:3
Magister, bene dixisti.
Master, you have spoken well.
