188:1
Matthew testifies that the Lord said (ch. 19:5) what Moses writes (Gen. 2:24) that Adam had spoken in this manner: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and so forth. But the words of the Lord agree with the sayings of Moses; for he who, fulfilling the office of Adam, prophesied by divine inspiration, is himself reported by Moses to have said this. And God indeed, who by divine inspiration formed those words in the heart of Adam, is himself the Father who is rightly reported by the Lord to have spoken. For Adam uttered this prophecy, and the Father, who inspired him, is rightly said to have uttered it.
