177:1
MATTH. XXVII, 57-61; MARC. xv, 42-47; LUC. XXIII, 50-56; JOAN. XIX, 38-42.
(Matt. 27:57-61; Mark 15:42-47; Luke 23:50-56; John 19:38-42) And when it was evening, there came a certain rich man, a noble councillor, from Arimathea a city of Judea, named Joseph, a good and just man, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus in secret for fear of the Jews, who also himself looked for the kingdom of God. He had not consented to their counsel and doings. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. But Pilate wondered that he should be already dead; and sending for the centurion, he asked him if he were already dead. And when he had understood it, he commanded the body to be delivered. And Nicodemus also came, he who at the first came to Jesus by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pound weight.
177:2
They took therefore the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. Now there was in the place where he was crucified a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein no man yet had been laid. And Joseph laid it there, and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. And Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting over against the sepulchre. They beheld how his body was laid. And returning, they prepared spices and ointments, that coming they might anoint him. And on the sabbath day they rested, according to the commandment.
