(Matt. 4:23-25) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and every infirmity among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to him all that were ill, that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and such as were possessed by devils, and lunatics; and he cured them. And much people followed him from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond the Jordan. (Luke 4:42-44) And they stayed him, that he should not depart from them. To whom he said: 'To other cities also I must preach the kingdom of God, for therefore am I sent.' And seeing the multitudes (Matt. 10:2-4; Mark 3:13-19; Luke
6:13-16), he went up into a mountain; and when he was set down, he called unto him whom he would himself. And they came to him; and he appointed that there should be twelve with him, whom also he named apostles: Simon, whom he surnamed Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, on whom he bestowed the names Boanerges, which is, sons of thunder; Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James of Alphaeus, and Simon who is called the Zealot, and Jude of James, and Judas Iscariot, who was the traitor. (Matt. 5:1-12; Luke 6:20-23) And his disciples came unto him. And lifting up his eyes upon them, opening his mouth, he taught them, saying: 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the land. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice, for they shall have their fill. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and hate you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly; and when they shall separate you, and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
