Matthew 9:9-17; Luke 5:29-39; Mark 2:16-22. And Levi made him a great feast in his house. And it came to pass, as he reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and reclined with Jesus and his disciples. For there were many who also followed him. And when the Scribes and Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples: Why does your master eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? When Jesus heard this, he said to them: Those who are well do not need a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, and not sacrifice (Hosea 6:6). For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. But they said to him:
Why do John's disciples fast often and offer up prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees; but yours eat and drink, and do not fast? And he said to them: Can the children of the wedding fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. But days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. And he told them a parable: No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth onto an old garment; otherwise the new patch takes away from the old, and a worse tear is made. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one who drinks old wine immediately desires new, for he says: The old is better.
