162:1
MATTH. XXVI, 26-35; MARC. XIV, 26-31; LUC. XXII, 14-20.
(Matt. 26:26-35; Mark 14:26-31; Luke 22:14-20) And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke, and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye and eat: this is my body, which is given for you. And taking the chalice, he gave thanks, and blessed, and broke, and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this: for this is my blood of the New Testament, which shall be shed for you and for many unto the remission of sins. And I say to you, I will not drink from henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father. Do this for a commemoration of me. (Luke 22:31-32) And the Lord said to Simon:
162:2
Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and thou, being once converted, confirm thy brethren. (John 13:33-38) Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You shall seek me; and as I said to the Jews: Whither I go, you cannot come; so I say to you now. A new commandment I give unto you: That you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another. Simon Peter saith to him: Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him: Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow hereafter. Then Jesus said to them:
162:3
Omnes vos scandalum patiemini in me in ista nocte. XIII, 7). Postquam autem resurrexero, præcedam vos in Galilæam. Respondens autem Petrus dixit illi: Etsi omnes scandalizati fuerint in te, ego nunquam scandalizabor: quia tecum paratus sum, ct in carcerem, et in mortem ire. Animam meam pro te ponam. Respondit ei Jesus: Animam tuam pro me pones? Amen, amen dico tibi, quia hac nocte, antequam gallus cantet, ter me negabis. Ait illi Petrus: Etiamsi oportuerit me mori tecum, non te negabo. Similiter et omnes discipuli dixerunt.
All you shall be scandalized in me this night. For it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be dispersed (Zach. 13:7). But after I shall be risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. And Peter answering said to him: Although all shall be scandalized in thee, I will never be scandalized: for I am ready to go with thee both into prison and to death. I will lay down my life for thee. Jesus answered him: Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Amen, amen I say to thee, this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter saith to him: Yea, though I should die with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said all the disciples.
