GREGORIUS e AudenUr dico, quia sine fide neque infidelis virit. Nam si cumdem infidclem percunctari voluero, quein patrem vel quam matrem habuerit, protinus respondebit, illum atque illam. Quem si statim requiram utrumne noverit quando conceptus sit, vel viderit quando natus, nihil horum se vel nosse, vel vidisse fatebitur, et tamen quod non vidit, credit. Ham illum patrem illmque se habuisse matrem absque dubitatione testatur. PETR. Fateor quia nunc usque nescivi quod infidelis haberet fidem.. GREGOR. f Habent etiam infideles fidem, sed utinam in Deum. Quan, si utique haberent, infideles non essent.
GREGORY: I say boldly, that without faith not even the unbeliever lives. For if I should wish to question that same unbeliever, what father or what mother he had, he will straightway answer, this man and that woman. And if I should at once require of him whether he knew when he was conceived, or saw when he was born, he will confess that he neither knew nor saw any of these things, and yet he believes what he did not see. For he testifies without doubt that he had that man for father and that woman for mother. PETER: I confess that until now I did not know that the unbeliever had faith. GREGORY: Even unbelievers have faith, but would that it were in God. For if indeed they had it, they would not be unbelievers.
額我略：我大膽地說，沒有信德，連不信者也活不下去。因為我若想詢問那同一個不信者，他有怎樣的父親、怎樣的母親，他必立刻回答說是某某人、某某人。而我若立即問他是否知道他何時受孕、或看見他何時出生，他必承認他既不知道、也未曾看見這其中任何一件事，然而他卻相信他所未曾看見的。因為他毫無疑問地證明，他曾以那人為父、以那女子為母。伯多祿：我承認直到如今我都不知道不信者也有信。額我略：連不信者也有信，只可惜不是對天主的信。因為他們若確有對天主的信，就不會是不信者了。

Sed hinc in sua per fidia redarguendi sunt, hinc all fidei gratiam provocandi, quia si de ipso suo visibili corpore credunt quod minime viderunt, cur invisibilia non credunt, quæ corporaliter videri non possunt;
But from this they are to be reproved in their own perfidy, and from this to be provoked to the grace of faith: for if concerning their own visible body they believe what they by no means saw, why do they not believe the invisible things, which cannot be seen bodily?
但正因此，他們該在自己的背信中受責備，並正因此被激勵歸向信德的恩典：因為他們若對自己那可見的身體，相信他們絕未曾看見之事，為何不相信那不能以肉體看見的不可見之事呢？
