699:1
Gregorius Romano defensori.
Gregory to Romanus the defensor. Because we have learned that the bearer of these presents, Argentius, a colonus of our Church, exercises the care of hospitality, it is necessary that we aid his zeal in some part. Therefore we command you by the authority of this instruction that you hasten, without any delay or excuse, to restore to him a little plot of land of about ten modii, more or less, as he asserts, of the Disterian possession, which he held, so that he may have it for the days of his life, and may pay nothing from it into the ecclesiastical accounts, but in it may prosper in that hospitality which he shows. For it is fitting that we ought by all means to concur with, and to bring counsel to, a good and praiseworthy work.
