Gregorius a Januario episcopo Caralitano. Qualiter in Sardinia minores vel pauperes, ab eis * qui illic majores sunt opprimantur, reverendissimi fratris nostri Dominici Carlhaginensis episcopi atque eminenlissimi filii nostri Innocentii praefecti epistolae docuerunt; a quibus ut quae nobis scripta sunt noveritis, ipsarum vobis epistolarum exemplaria praevidimus transmittenda. Et ideo quia ea quae petenda sunt offeruntur, studiose agendum est ut ea quæ promittuntur opere compleantur. Si qui eorum de quibus est quaestio, in ecclesiam fortasse refugerint, ita debet causa c diligentia vestra disponi, ut nec ipsi violentiam patiantur, nec ii qui dicuntur oppressi damna sustineant.
Gregory to Januarius, bishop of Cagliari. In what manner the lesser folk or the poor in Sardinia are oppressed by those who are there the greater, the letters of our most reverend brother Dominicus, bishop of Carthage, and of our most eminent son Innocentius the prefect have shown; and in order that you may know what has been written to us by them, we have provided that copies of those very letters be transmitted to you. And therefore, since the things which are to be sought are offered, it must be zealously acted upon, that those things which are promised may be fulfilled in deed. If any of those concerning whom the question exists should perhaps take refuge in a church, the case must be so disposed by your diligence that neither may they themselves suffer violence, nor may those who are said to be oppressed sustain losses.

Curae ergo vestiae sit ut eis sacramento ab iis quorum interest de servanda lege et justitia promittatur, et per omnia commoneantur exire, atque suorum actuum reddere rationem, quibus etiam Ecclesiae vestrae defensorem deputare vos convenit. Cujus sollicitudine ea quae illis fuerint promissa serventur, quatenus ncc aliis d noxia sint, et ip is ecclesiastica, salva ratione, possint prodesse refugia. Ita ergo fraternitas vestra faciat, ut haec quæ ejus studio emendanda sunt mora per eam vel impedimentum aliquod non contingat.
Let it therefore be your care that an oath be given to them by those whom it concerns concerning the observance of law and justice, and that they be admonished in all things to go forth, and to render an account of their deeds; for which purpose it also befits you to appoint a defensor of your Church. By whose solicitude the things that were promised them may be observed, so that they may neither be harmful to others, and the ecclesiastical refuges, with reason preserved, may be able to profit them. So therefore let your fraternity act, that no delay or impediment may occur through it in these things which must be corrected by its zeal.
故此你當留意，使有關之人向他們立誓遵守法律與公義，並在一切事上勸誡他們出來，交代他們的行為；為此你也宜為你的教會指派一名護衛。藉他的用心，使所應許他們之事得以遵守，以致這些事既不致有害於他人，教會的庇護處在合理保全之下也能使他們得益。故此願你的兄弟會如此行事，使這些當藉其熱忱加以糾正之事，不因它而有任何拖延或阻礙。
