Gregorius Fortunato episcopo Neapolitano. Scripta nae charitatis accepimus, quibus nobis indicasti, Deo prOpitio, te bene a filiis tuis Neapol:tanis civibus esse susceptum. De quibus Omnipotenti Duo gratias retulimus.Oportet ergo affectui eorum te tuis moribus compensare, malus coercere, bonis te discrete atque benignissime relaxare, ad sequedas eos meliores partes frequentius admonero, quatenus et illi pAternos in te mores invenisse se gaudeant, et tu creditam tibi regiminis causam, cooperante Dowino, studiosius exsequaris.
Gregory to Fortunatus, bishop of Naples. We have received the letters of your charity, in which you have indicated to us that, God being favorable, you have been well received by your sons, the citizens of Naples. For which we have rendered thanks to the Omnipotent God. It behooves you, therefore, to repay their affection by your own morals, to coerce the bad, to relax toward the good discreetly and most kindly, to admonish them more frequently to follow the better parts, so that both they may rejoice to have found in you paternal manners, and you may more studiously carry out the cause of government committed to you, with the Lord cooperating.
