Gregorius Romano defensori Siciliæ. Divinorum nos admonent eloquia praeceptorum necessitatem patientibus ecclesiasticum præbere subsidium. Quia ergo dilectissimus filius noster Cyprianus diaconus, Gaudiosum defensorem sedis nostrae, qui Syracusis degere comprobatar, pauperla is asserit inopia c onstringi, idcirco experientiæ tuae praesenti auctoritate mandamus ut a præsenti secunda indictione sex solidos annis si gulis ei dare non dif feras, ut et ille hujus remedii solatio potiatur, et tu quod dederis tuis sine dubio noveris rationibus imputaodum. Gregory to Romanus, defensor of Sicily. The utterances of the divine precepts admonish us to furnish ecclesiastical aid to those suffering necessity. Since therefore our most beloved son Cyprianus the deacon asserts that Gaudiosus, defensor of our see, who is known to reside at Syracuse, is constrained by the want of poverty, therefore we command your experience by the present authority that, from the present second indiction, you not delay to give him six solidi every year—so that he may enjoy the comfort of this remedy, and you may know without doubt that what you shall have given is to be credited to your accounts.
