815:1
Gregorius Savino subdi icono regionario.
Gregory to Savinus, regionary subdeacon. It has come to us that our most reverend brother and fellow bishop Palumbus — which is grievous to say — neglects the affairs and interests of his Church and of its parishes, so that not only some of their goods or their slaves, but even their ministries he carelessly allows to be in the hands of various persons. That this is so, this also in some part suggests and confirms to us: that Gregory, the bearer of the present letter, who declares himself to be under the jurisdiction of the Emolitan Church, which is established in his diocese, complains that in his (the bishop's) presence he is unduly subjected by another to servitude.
Therefore let your discretion be earnest to admonish our aforesaid brother, that he should reasonably claim and defend the goods of his Churches and parishes and their ministries, and by no means allow them to be held by others. And in this matter, lest perhaps he be able to find some excuse, we wish your aids, with equity preserved, to be at hand to him. But if perhaps you should see him to be negligent, as he has been hitherto, we wish you to do and to fulfill in all things those things which he ought to have done, so that the interest of the Churches may perish by no occasion; but also hasten to report to us whatever things shall have been done, so that you may be instructed by us what you ought to do after this. Given in the month of March, in the sixth indiction.
