Gregorius * Eupatori duci Sardiniæ. Cum lator praesentium b Valdarichus illa nos pro sua commendatione scribere postulet quæ magnitudinem vestram æquitatis intuitu s'ne cujusquam etiam intercessione non dubitamus efficere, petitionem ipsius minime de piciendam prospeximus.
Gregory to Eupaterius, duke of Sardinia. Since the bearer of the present letter, Valdarichus, asks us to write on his behalf those things which, out of regard for equity, we do not doubt your Magnificence would do even without anyone's intercession, we have judged that his petition is by no means to be despised.

Quia ergo ut cum uxore sua, quam hic de Romana civitate esse perhibet, reverti, sicut desiderat, valeat vestris se poscit patrociniis 1192 adjuvandum, paternoe dilectionis salutantes affectu, petimus ut hac in re magnitudinis vestrae tuitionem habeat, et a nullo eos illic contra rationis ordinem impediri prmittatis, sed desideriis eorum pro vestra nlercede adesse et concurrere debeatis, quatenus et illi se adjutos vestra ope congandeant, et magnitudo vestra poscenti-bus impendisse quod justum piumque est videatur.
Since therefore he begs to be aided by your patronage, that he may be able, as he desires, to return with his wife, whom he affirms to be here from the city of Rome, greeting you with the affection of fatherly love, we ask that in this matter he may have the protection of your Magnificence, and that you would allow them there to be hindered by no one contrary to the order of reason, but that for your own reward you would be present and lend your aid to their desires, so that both they may rejoice to be aided by your help, and your Magnificence may be seen to have bestowed upon the petitioners that which is just and holy.
