661:1
Gregorius a Ecclesio episcopo Clulino.
Gregory to Ecclesius, bishop of Chiusi. Receiving the writings of your fraternity, we were saddened, because through them we learned that you had been gravely infirm, and are still weak. And although we had a desire to see your holiness, yet you did well to keep yourself there at this time, lest coming here you should, from the trouble of your sickness, make us a relapse of sadness. But concerning the episcopate we praised that you did not rashly choose a person, but were cautious, as was fitting. For when you come, if it please God, we will treat of it by common deliberation, and what shall seem useful, with God helping, we will dispose.
Moreover, we have sent you one horse, such as we were able to find, from the blessing of Saint Peter, that you may have something on which to be carried after your infirmity. But concerning the affairs for which the bearers of these presents came hither, what has been done, you will learn from the full report of them. Besides, let your fraternity bestow the office of visitation upon the Churches which you can approach without labor, so that those who are there baptized, God being propitious, may not have to remain unconfirmed.
