Gregorius 0 Constantino episcopo Narniensi. Fraternitati vestræ Ecclesiae b Teramnanae visitationis operam nos olim mandasse recolimus. Sed quia pervenit ad nos quod, peccatis facientibus, nec clerus illic, nec plebs tanta remanserit, quibus c debeat interimepiscopus ordinari, utile esse prospeximus eamdem Ecclesiam, vel quidquid ipsius est, quousque illam ut Domino placuerit ordinemus, vestrae Deo auctore dispositioni committere. Et ideo solicitudinem vos convenit adhibere, ut quidquid de possessionibus Ecclesiae ipsius in qualibet re accedere potuerit, d vobis vel in reparatione ejusdem Ecclesiae sive cleri ipsius subventione proficiat;
Gregory to Constantinus, bishop of Narni. We recall having once charged your Fraternity with the work of visitation of the Church of Teramo. But because it has reached us that, our sins bringing it about, neither so great a clergy nor people has remained there by whom a bishop ought meanwhile to be ordained, we have foreseen it to be useful to commit that same Church, or whatever belongs to it, to your disposition—God being author—until we may ordain it as it shall please the Lord. And therefore it befits you to apply solicitude, so that whatever can accrue from the possessions of that Church in any matter may profit you either in the repair of that same Church or in the support of its clergy;

quatenus et vos remedium pro vestro labore capere, et illi ali juod valeant sustentationis babere solatium. e Mobile vero prædictæ Ecclesiæ facta subtiliter voiumus describi notitia, nobisque transmitti, ut ex hoc quid fieri debeat, auctore Domino, d sponamus. Circa actus autem, vel disciplinam cIeri vel liliorum Ecclesiæ ipsius magnam te habere curam necesse est, atque ita insuper pastorali studio vigilare, ut de animabus eorum non culpabilis sis, sed apud omnipotentem Deum mercedem potius possis aequirere.
so that both you may take a remedy for your labor, and they may be able to have some solace of sustenance. But of the movable property of the aforesaid Church we wish a record to be subtly drawn up and transmitted to us, so that from this we may dispose, the Lord being author, what ought to be done. Concerning the conduct, moreover, or the discipline of the clergy or of the children of that same Church, it is necessary that you have great care, and moreover so to keep watch with pastoral zeal, that you may not be culpable concerning their souls, but may rather be able to acquire a reward with Almighty God.
