Si proximorum necessitatibus habita comPassione Lenigna mente concurrimus, nostris procul duhio petitionibus Dominuu) clementem reperimus. u Pastorem siquidem. qui nimia visus imbecillitate laburat, habentem conjugem, duoque mancipia, qui ct cum Jonatha quondam gloriosa fuerat, plurimis cognovimus necessitatibus subjacere. Propterea elpcrientiam tuam per praesentis præcepti paginam admonemus, uti pro sustentatione ejus annuus triLici modios trecentos, necnon et fabæ modios totidem dare non differas, quæ postmodum possint tuis fation:bus imputari. ita ergo fac ut et tu bene aniuistrans mercedis commodum percipias, et nostra ad effectum præcepta perducas.
Gregory to Peter, subdeacon. If, feeling compassion, we run with a kindly mind to the needs of our neighbours, we without doubt find the Lord merciful to our petitions. For we have learned that the shepherd who is seen to labour under excessive infirmity, having a wife and two slaves, and who once was in the service of Jonathas of glorious memory, is subject to very many necessities. Therefore by the page of this present precept we admonish your Discretion that, for his support, you do not delay to give three hundred measures of wheat yearly, and likewise as many measures of beans, which may afterwards be charged to your accounts. So then act that you both, by ministering well, may gain the profit of a reward, and may bring our commands to effect.
額我略致副執事伯多祿。倘若我們懷著憐憫，以仁慈之心奔赴鄰人的急需，便無疑會發現上主對我們的祈求也是仁慈的。因為我們得知：那位看來因過度衰弱而勞苦、有妻子和兩名奴僕、且曾在光榮已故的約納塔斯手下服役的牧人，正陷於極多的困乏之中。故我們藉本訓令的文書勸勉閣下：為供養他，不可延遲每年給予小麥三百斗，並同樣份量的豆子，此款日後皆可記入你的帳目。故此當如此行，好使你既因善盡職事而得賞報之利，又使我們的命令得以實現。
