Gregorius A Spesindeo præsidi Sardiniæ. Particeps procul dubio mercedis existit, qui bonorum se operum exhibet adjutorem. Quia ergo multi de barbaris L et provincialibus Sardiniae ad Chrislianam fidem dicuntur Deo propifio devotissime festinare, magnitudo vestra studium suum hac in causa decenter accommodet, et fratri coepiscopoque nostro Victori in convertendis bapiizandisque eis studiose concurrat; quatenus dum de interitu multorum animae per baptismatis gratiam vobis fuerint solatiantibus liberatae, et apud homines laudem habere, et apud omnipotentem Dominum, quod summopere sluden-, dum est, magnam mercedem possitis acquirere;
Gregory to Spesindeus, governor of Sardinia. Without doubt he becomes a partaker of the reward who shows himself a helper of good works. Since, therefore, many of the barbarians and provincials of Sardinia are said, with God's favor, most devoutly to hasten to the Christian faith, let your greatness fittingly lend its zeal in this cause, and studiously concur with Victor, our brother and fellow-bishop, in converting and baptizing them; to the end that, when the souls of many shall have been delivered from ruin through the grace of baptism, you giving your support, you may both have praise among men, and be able to acquire before the almighty Lord—which is above all to be striven for—a great reward;
