Gregorius Amandino domestico. Confidentes quod gloria vestra se in amicorum suorum solatiis devotam semper exhibeat, eorum vobis causas commendare quos diligitis studemus. Atque ideo salutantes pelimus ut gloriosus filius noster Gregorius, a quales vos hic habuit, illic tales inveniat; et tam apud gloriosum filium nostrum Leontium, quam:libi quocunque necesse fuerit, gloriae vestrae solatia consequatur, ac magnam in vobis consolationem inveniat; et quantum possibile est, ne cuiquam injustæ possit afflictioni vel gravamini subjacere, gloriae vestrae sollicitudo studio vigilanti provideat ut tran. quillo maturoque hfc studeat consilio declinare:
Gregory to Amandinus, the domesticus. Trusting that your Glory always shows yourself devoted in comforting your friends, we are eager to commend to you the affairs of those whom you love. And therefore, greeting you, we ask that our glorious son Gregory may find yonder such as you were to him here; and that both with our glorious son Leontius, and with you wherever it may be necessary, he may obtain the comforts of your Glory, and find great consolation in you; and that, as far as is possible, lest he be subjected to any unjust affliction or grievance, your Glory's solicitude may provide with vigilant zeal, so that he may strive to avoid this by tranquil and mature counsel:

quatenus dum vos, sicut decet, adjutores habuerit. et ipse et nos amplius cognoscere valeamus, quia sicut de gloria vestra praesumimus, non ad faciem, sed, quod est valde laudabile, puras nostris amicitias exhibere.
so that, while he has you, as is fitting, for helpers, both he himself and we may be able to know more fully that—as we presume concerning your Glory—you show your friendships to be pure, not for outward show, but, what is greatly praiseworthy, sincere toward us.
