Gregorius Azimarcho scribom. Quod præsentium portitor gloriosus filius noster Gregorius tarde ad Siciliam venit, non voluntate distulit, sed ita infirmitate corporis debilis factus est, ut vix in multis diebus reparari potuerit. Cujus deb litatis indicia etiam ipsi adhuc in eo cognoscetis. Mox autem ut aliquantulum convalu't, venire iliuc sicut magnitudini vestræ promiserat, non neglexit. QuoJ ideo bis apicibus scribendum praevidimus, nc e:lm distulisse sponte credentes, hanc moram ejus forsiian studio factam putaretis.
Gregory to Azimarchus, the scribo. That the bearer of the present letter, our glorious son Gregory, came late to Sicily, he did not put off by his own will, but was rendered so weak by infirmity of body that he was scarcely able to recover over many days. The signs of that weakness you yourselves will still recognize in him even now. But as soon as he had somewhat recovered, he did not neglect to come thither, as he had promised to your Magnitude. This we have seen fit to write in these lines, lest, believing him to have put it off of his own accord, you should suppose this delay of his to have perhaps been made by design.
額我略致書記官阿齊馬爾庫斯。本信的持信人、我們榮耀的兒子額我略之所以遲遲才到西西里，並非出於己意拖延，而是因身體患病而變得如此虛弱，以致他多日才勉強得以復元。那虛弱的跡象，你們如今仍能在他身上看出。但他一稍微康復，便照他向閣下所許的，毫不耽延地前往那裡。我們認為當以這幾行字寫明此事，免得你們以為他是甘心拖延，而猜想他這番延遲或許是有意為之。
