Gregorius Joanni episcopo Ravennæ. Jurgantium controversias celeri sententia terminare, et æquitati procul dubio convenit et vigori. Quia ergo Viulandus, praesentium lator, fraternitatis tuae cognitionem implorat, diaconem Gravinianum. contra quem se habere causam commemorat, fraternitas tua ad suum faciat accersire judicium; et, amota dilatione, causæ veritatem subtili inquisitione discutiat et quæcunque justitia: ordo dictaverit, ac tua fuerit sententia definita, et observare et implere parces modis omnibus compellantur.
Gregory to John, bishop of Ravenna. To end the controversies of litigants by a swift sentence befits, beyond doubt, both equity and vigor. Since therefore Viulandus, the bearer of these presents, implores the hearing of your Fraternity against the deacon Gravinianus, against whom he declares he has a case, let your Fraternity cause him to be summoned to your court; and, all delay set aside, let it examine the truth of the case by subtle inquiry, and whatever the order of justice shall dictate and your sentence shall have determined, let both parties be compelled by every means to observe and fulfill.
