172:1
Gregorius Felici episcopo Messanensi.
Gregory to Felix, bishop of Messina. And we are confident that it will be pleasing to you also, if the burdens of the pilgrimage of your brother, the venerable man bishop Paulinus, be relieved, so that under his governance the monastery of blessed Theodore, founded in your city, may serve Almighty God more zealously by the common reward. That you also wished this to be done, we have already learned from his report. And therefore we have instructed the rector of our patrimony to gather into one the monks of the said bishop's monastery, after they have been sought out, and not to delay to place them in the same monastery with those who are now there, so that under that rector they may exercise the care of their souls more worthily.
172:2
Quam rem venerationi tuae innotescendam praevidimus, a ne te omisso aliquid in tua contristeris diœcesi ordinari.
We have foreseen that this matter should be made known to your Reverence, lest, being passed over, you should be grieved that anything is ordained in your diocese.
