Hcs ad nos detestabilis et omnino legibus inimica pervenit, quæ, si vera est, fraternitatem tuam 819 vehementer accusat, quia eam de minori sollicitudine probat esse culpabilem. Comperimus autem quod b Samaræi degentes Ca. tinæ, pagana mancipia emerint, atque c ea circumcidere ausu temerario præsumpserint. Atque ideirco necesse est ut omni modo zelum in hac causa sacer. dotalem exercens, eum omni hoc vivacilate ac soliicitudine studeas perscrutari;
A detestable report, and altogether hostile to the laws, has come to us, which, if it is true, vehemently accuses your Fraternity, because it proves you to be culpable of too little solicitude. For we have learned that Samaritans dwelling at Catina have bought pagan slaves, and have presumed, by rash daring, to circumcise them. And therefore it is necessary that, exercising in this matter by every means a priestly zeal, you should be zealous to investigate this thoroughly with all liveliness and solicitude;

et si ila repereris, mancipia ipsa sine ntora in libertatem modis omnibus vindica, et ecclesiasticam eis tuitionem impende, nee quidquam dominos eorum de pretio quolibet modo recipere patiaris, qui non solum hoc damno mulctandi, sed etiam aLa eram poena de legibus reriendi. and if you find it to be so, without delay vindicate those slaves into liberty by all means, and extend to them ecclesiastical protection, nor suffer their masters in any way to receive anything of the price, who are to be mulcted not only with this loss, but also to be struck with another penalty from the laws.
