Gregorius Felici in Sicilia. Susceptis magnitudinis vestrae epistolis, contristaIi sumus quod ab actoribus Ecclesiæ Syracusanæ quasdam possessiones, quas vos tenuisse dicitis, occupatas irrationabiliter indcastis. Se l credimus quin hoc ad fratris et cocpiscopi nostri Joannis notitiam non pervenit. Nam absolute poterat, cognita veritate, si quid illicite factum est, emendari. Et ideo quia legali provisione decretum est a tam imminentis quam principalis rei causam in uno eodemque ju iicio cognosci, nec nos contra inauditam partem aliquid possumus definire, prædicto fratri nostro scripsimusatactores Ecclesiæ suae deputare debeat, qui Vobiscum sine mora electorum possint subire judicium;
Gregory to Felix in Sicily. Having received the letters of Your Magnificence, we have been saddened that you say some possessions, which you assert you had held, were irrationally occupied by the agents of the Church of Syracuse. But we believe that this did not come to the notice of our brother and fellow-bishop John. For it could easily, the truth being known, if anything was done unlawfully, be amended. And therefore, since it has been decreed by legal provision that the cause both of the pending matter and of the principal one be heard in one and the same judgment, and we can define nothing against a party unheard, we have written to our aforesaid brother that he ought to appoint the proctors of his Church, who may without delay undergo the judgment of chosen arbiters together with you;

ne aut vos res vestras sine cognitione, sicut querelam facitis, amittere, aut pars altera videatur præjudicium sustinere. Gloria ergo vestra nullas iti eligendos b judices difficulates interserat, vel differat ad causam accedere. Nam omnina de supradicti fratris ct coepiscopi nostri moribus certi sumus quia facere quidquid rationis ordo exegerit non recuset c.
lest either you seem to lose your property without a hearing, as you complain, or the other party seem to sustain prejudice. Therefore let Your Glory interpose no difficulties in choosing judges, nor defer to come to the cause. For we are altogether certain concerning the character of our aforesaid brother and fellow-bishop, that he will not refuse to do whatever the order of reason shall have demanded.
免得或是你如所控訴的那樣，未經審理便喪失財產，或是另一方顯得蒙受損害。所以，願你榮耀者在選定審斷者上不設任何阻難，也不拖延前來應訟。因為我們對前述弟兄與同為主教者的品格全然確信，知道凡理性程序所要求的，他都不會拒絕去行。
