600:1
Gregorius Sergio defensori.
Gregory to Sergius the defensor. Our most reverend brother Peter, bishop of the city of Hydruntum, has complained to us through Vincentius his deacon that Fruniscendus, formerly a son of his Church, is a debtor in many things; and that he not only refuses to make satisfaction concerning those things by which he is bound, but even scorns to submit to judgment. Wherefore by the present authority we command your Experience to take pains to admonish him, that if he acknowledges anything owing to the Church from his obligation, he cease not, without deferment, to make satisfaction. Otherwise, all delay ceasing, let him, at your compulsion, come to the judgment of chosen arbiters.
And whatever, when the truth is known, shall be determined by means of the most holy Gospels, let it be brought to the effect of execution by your instance, in such wise that the complaint of this matter may not come back to us afresh.
