Gregorius Maurentio magistro militum. Petiit Domitius vir magnificus, ut vestrae gloriae Fcriberc deberemus, quatenus, navigantibus aliis, et filio suo similiter esset licentia navigandi. Et quamvis de gloria vestra certi sumus quia nihil quod indiscretum est faciat, sed omnia sapienter intendat; hortamur tamen ut si alii relaxantur, ille non debcat retineri, ne forsitan non ei ratione, e sed sola fratrum inimicitia retineri videatur. Vos tamen qui praesentes estis, aequitatis consideratione generalem etiam utilitatem attendentes, melius quid expediat potestis advertere.
Gregory to Maurentius, master of soldiers. Domitius, a magnificent man, has petitioned that we should write to your Glory, that, when others are sailing, his son likewise should have licence to sail. And although we are certain concerning your Glory that you would do nothing that is indiscreet, but would attend to all things wisely, yet we exhort that, if others are released, he ought not to be detained, lest perchance he should seem to be detained not by reason but by the mere enmity of the brethren. You, however, who are present, considering the general benefit also with regard for equity, are able better to perceive what may be expedient.
