Gregorius Dono episcopo Messanensi. Nullus unquam contentionibus finis imponitur, si impleri ea quae judicata fuerint differantur. Filius itaque noster Placidus, vir magnificus, questus est nohis ea quae inter eum et actores Ecclesiae vestrae Dei judicio definita sunt fraternitatem vestram nolle complere. Quod si ita est miramur, ut dum quieti vestrae vos deceat studere, contentiohis vobis scrupulum reservetis. Proinde scriptis vos praesentibus adhortamur ut subtiliter requirere debeatis. Et si. fjuid minus impletum est, si tamen nibil est,quod juste possit obsistere, sine discordia compleatur;
Gregory to Donus, bishop of Messina. No end is ever imposed upon contentions, if the carrying out of the things which have been adjudged is deferred. And so our son Placidus, a magnificent man, has complained to us that your Fraternity is unwilling to fulfill the things which have been defined by the judgment of God between him and the agents of your Church. Which, if it is so, we wonder that, whereas it would become you to be zealous for your own quiet, you reserve to yourselves the scruple of contention. Wherefore by the present writings we exhort you that you ought to inquire subtly. And if anything has been less than fulfilled, provided nevertheless that there is nothing which could justly stand in the way, let it be fulfilled without discord;
