Ex habitatoribus It Massae Nicoteranæ, quoram episcopns pro quibusdam culpis in pœnitentiam 824 deputatus est, relatione comperimus nullum illic es-e presbyterum qui sacra possit missarum solemnia celebrare, in laBIum ut etiam filios suus sine baptismate asserant remansisse. Et quia hac pro causa magnopere petiverunt sibi in eadem Ecclesia cui fraternitas vestra operam visitationis impendit debcre presbyterum ordinari, ea propter scriptis vos præsentibus adhortamur, ut de clero ejusdem Ecclesiæ requirere debeatis, cujus vita et mores ad hoc possint officium convenire, et eum illic presbyterum festinetis, auxiHiante Domino, consecrare.

From the inhabitants of the Estate of Nicotera, whose bishop has for certain faults been assigned to penance, we have learned by their report that there is no presbyter there who can celebrate the sacred solemnities of the masses—so far that they assert even their children have remained without baptism. And since for this cause they have greatly begged that a presbyter ought to be ordained for them in the same Church to which your Fraternity extends the labor of visitation, on this account we exhort you by the present writings that you ought to seek out from the clergy of that same Church one whose life and morals can suit this office, and that you hasten, the Lord aiding, to consecrate him presbyter there.

Nam valde durum est ut quousque Musa episcopi eorum subtiliter requiratur, non habeat Ecclesia illa presbyterum, qui sacrum iIlic opus valeat celebrare. c Mense Julio, indiction, 14.
